1986 door locks on a 1988?

Ive been looking for a new set of door locks for my 88 cougar on ebay...ive found quite a lot, but they're all either black in color, or silver, but have the trunk lock pattern rather than the ignition pattern.  I found this set:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMP-STANDARD-DL-3-Door-Lock-/290735801448?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b1344468&vxp=mtr

will this fit, or is the arm on the back different?  I know the right one must exist, because I have one on the passenger side, but the drivers side one was torn off by the previous owner

Buy a whole 4 or 5 lock set if you can find it. Otherwise, the 86 and 88 locks will both fit. If the arms are different (and the left and wight side arms should be) you should be able to swap them.  Your dealer will have the arms, but probably not the locks anymore.  Our cars are the older style 10 cut keys, so built-to-fit locks wont be available, and who wants 3 or more keys for their car? Try to find a whole kit. If you don't mid having the trunk key work the doors, there are lots of complete mustang kits that will fit our cars. Like this one.

I'm reasonably sure Mustang door locks won't work on an '87-8 Tbird....

The lighted type have a different arm and are totally different than the std type... On the std type it's just a matter of flipping the arm over for right vs left as mentioned...

I dunno for sure but I'd bet you could go all the way back to the introduction of the dual sided keys in '65 and they'd work for Mustang or T-Bird... I used to swap Falcon for Galaxie, Fairlane for Mustang, etc all were same...

I recently repinned a set of '72 Comet locks for a common key, those old five pinners are easy...

well right now i have a lighted set on my car, got it off an old 86 or so cougar that was going to s.  They fit fine...and if you say the tumblers/housing are the same on both, then i shoudl be able to take the arms off my current ones and swap them.

Ahh, the illuminated keylocks are what I've had, so that's why I was sure they were different. ;)

so If the illuminated ones were different than the flat ones...im either goign to have to buy the 86 locks and hope they fit...or find someone with a flat set lying around from an 88
