5 speed computer question.... May 12, 2007, 04:06:55 PM My car is speed density, and I'm using a Mustang H.O computer (AOD) to run it.I have a DA1 5 speed Stang computer in the trunk. Is it worth using the 5 speed piece instead? Quote Selected
5 speed computer question.... Reply #1 – May 12, 2007, 04:53:11 PM I installed the 5 speed computer a few minutes ago.I haven't driven the car yet,but I'll be able to tell if there's a difference. Quote Selected
5 speed computer question.... Reply #2 – May 12, 2007, 08:11:26 PM 5 Speed eec might cause intermitten stalling at lights or when slowing down due to not having the enrichment at idle like the auto eec does. Quote Selected
5 speed computer question.... Reply #3 – May 12, 2007, 08:39:35 PM That computer you have is from a speed density 87 Mustang with a stick. I think Dominator is right that it might cause a problem when you back off the gas. I think you would have better luck with it if you swaped over to mass air with a mass air computer. If I remember correctly Tom(TC50) knows quite a bit about the EEC. Quote Selected
5 speed computer question.... Reply #4 – May 13, 2007, 12:39:21 AM I'll drive it tomorrow and see ho it does.If there's any problem,I'll go back to the '87 Stang AOD computer.I also have a Mark VII computer to fall back on just in case. The car idles great with the 5 speed computer, althought idling isn't driving.I need to just hit the road and see how she feels. 5 speed computer question.... Reply #7 – May 15, 2007, 05:54:45 AM The manual computer is working gresat (I have an AOD),the idle is a little smoother and 200 rpm's higher.I also changed my distributor,soI haven't had a chance to get back to the boneyard to check on the drums.Hopefully this weekend.Time has been very hard to get lately. 5 speed computer question.... Reply #9 – May 15, 2007, 10:10:50 AM They say a Manual eec in an Auto car will improve 0-60 times slightly.http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/ho_conversion.html#computerQuoteBy the way, it is acceptable to use a manual transmission computer in an automatic car (but you cannot do the reverse). The timing curve and sensor adjustments are a little more responsive with a manual computer, giving you better throttle response and slightly improved 0-60 times. Quote Selected
5 speed computer question.... Reply #10 – May 15, 2007, 02:06:16 PM Ardmore is in south central Oklahoma,30 miles north of Texas. So far,the computer has been great. The throttle does seem a little more responsive. As far as 1/4 times.I have no idea.Iy'll be a while before I know that for sure. 5 speed computer question.... Reply #13 – May 16, 2007, 05:04:47 PM She doesnt stall on me, just bogs every once in a while. It's intermittent and could be caused by a slew of other things that need to be checked out first. Many people have used the 5 speed comp without issue in AOD cars. Quote Selected
