Computer swap October 25, 2005, 12:10:44 AM I am planning on putting a new 5.0 in my car and I'm worried most about the computer issues. As far as the current one in the car goes, I'm assuming it's going to have to be replaced. What to replace it with however, is what I am confused about. Would one out of a 87-93 GT be a good choice, or are there other performance EEC's out there that would make my life easier. I'm going for a goal of 350 rwhp... which I hope isn't too unatainable. Any help on this would be appreciated. If anyone could point me in the right direction to what would be appropriate replacements, I have no problem doping my own research, I just honsetly have no lcue about where to even start on here. Computer swap Reply #2 – October 25, 2005, 12:54:54 AM That's really helpful, I saw the parts list on samsfoxthndercats.com, and thought about doing that, but with 210,000 miles on my block, I've decided to step up to something a little more HO. I'd be upgrading to the AFR heads, see about getting 1.7 rockers and picking up the forged pistons for supercharging in the future. Honestly, I don't even know if this swap is possible, so go ahead and point and laugh if it isn't:giggle: . It's something I would really love to do though, and I know others have done things way more extreme than this (331, 342, 429). And with that motor i would be stepping up to MAF. I know the FRPP MA kit comes with what I believe to be a computer. Is it actually a computer, and if it is, is that all I would need?ThanksPaul Quote Selected
Computer swap Reply #3 – October 25, 2005, 01:44:45 AM id stay away from buying the frpp MAF conversion kit man. its way too expensive. its true youd be getting all new stuff but you can part it together way cheeper than that. you can also upgrade initially instead of using what they supply although i think the maf and 24lb injectors it comes with would support your application. ive also heard the cobra computer also has a more aggressive tune.reguardless of the 302s build up its still basically the standard HO swap. in a nutshell, all you have to do is pull the old motor out, drop the new one in and install the HO computer. theres a few little details about doing the MAF conversion but its been beat to death here so you should have no problems finding help or info. theres alot of guys on here that have been there and are willing to help. good luck man...
