20th body clean up and getting back in shape August 31, 2017, 09:19:05 PM working on body parts.when i bought this in 2008, i knew it came from Wisconsin and could have typical issues.sometime in the past major patch work was done,, a decent job was performed but removal of old metal / rusted pieces was not included. if they had only cut out the bad metal this work i am doing may not have been needed.so here goes.. sanding,, tearing apart and then wire screen the backs of the holes and secure with short hair fiberglass.continue the fill on the outside with fiber glass then come back with body filler, keep sanding till smooth then prime and paint.the root cause of the foward of the rear qtrs is that sometime in the past, the car was put on a lift and the rear most of each rocker was used as a lift point.this depressed that area of meal up.the upward depression opened up a body seam. when the tires spin, years of water was allowed up into the rocker directly below the rear seat outter arm rest,, down in that unused cubby of our cars.the rear of the front fenders root cause is the sound deadening got moist and held water and debris. this kept the interior of the fender from drying out well and also allowing its drainage to occure.It all might be patch work but it is what it is.i have single stage paint in air presurized spray cans and am going to attempt paint the car like that.my garage is taken up by another 87 which seems to have stalled since "someone" has flaked out and lost intrest in his first car.the Ghia needs to be in the garage, not a half assembled black coug which isnt going to be appreciated. I had that issue even on my car, which is from California and garage kept. It happened to the rear of the driverside fender. I had to get a replacement fender before painting. Turns out it's cheaper to buy and ship a rust free fender than have a body shop recreate the bottom rear of the fender from the molding down.I pulled that insulation out. Didn't seem to make muchof a difference noise level wise. Quote Selected
