Blunt question on axel swap.

Just to verify, will a 5 bolt axle from a 94 to 98 Mustang swap easily into my 84 Cougar 8.8 if I re-drill the drums to 5 hole? From the axle chart on this forum it looks too simple. Did I miss something?
Thanks

What is the 8.8 out of originally? Fox Mustang? 87-88TC?

I did this on my '84 Cougar WAAAAY back. Drill the drums to 5-lug and open up the center bore to clear the larger hub on the 5-lug axle.

I used the 8.8 from an 88 Mustang along with the axles and brakes from my original 84 7.5. The housings are the same width and according to the  chart, (http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?3664-Help!-7-5-quot-Axle-to-8-8-quot-Trouble!/page6)  the axles in question are only .060" difference.
Thanks

The 94-up Mustang 5 lug disc axle shafts are each about .75 inch longer than the earlier 93-older drum brake axle shafts if I remember right?. I dont think you're going to get the brake drum tofully cover the shoes even if you had 5 lug Ranger drums. Probably going to need to hit the junkyard and pull the drum 5 lug axles from the driver side of two separate 2WD Rangers of the correct year range, 80's to early 90's from what I remember. Or just swap over to the 94-up Mustang rear discs with the 94 Mustang axle shafts. But that involves new e brake cables, brake line mods, and so on.

I have the Ranger 5 lug setup. I dont want to use it because the axles are 3/4" shorter per side. I want to use the 94+ axles to maintain the same stance if possible and just re drill the drums.

If you are set on keeping drum brakes then Chuck has you covered with what he said.  The axles are the same between the 94-98 V6 & GT SN95 Mustangs so I always look for the V6 cars as people value them less so I get my parts for less.
