PLEASE HELP! wont turn starter

Doing a 2.3 conv. on my 88 Tbird.  Got motor and tranny put in and wired so the motor turns and would probably start with the key.
Had to install fuel lines, so I did that and when I got that done I tried to turn over the motor again only this time all I would get is a click out of the starter relay solenoid.  I checked into wiring and all, I found that the starter wire had gotten pushed against the tranny lines and there was a bare spot grounding itself on the tranny lines.. So I removed the wire and fixed the bare spot and installed it back on the starter, and it did not fix the problem. I tried a new starter and different solenoid and can not get it figured out. Some help PLEASE. Nate

You get a click but the starter doesn't turn?

A few suggestions:

1) Check your engine grounds. If the engine isn't grounded the starter won't turn
2) Check the batt cables and connections - they may be able to carry the current required to activate the solenoid but may not be able to pass the hundreds of amps required to turn the starter
3) Check to see that nothing is causing the starter to bind. If the engine is seized, or if the starter is jamming on the flywheel it may not be able to turn the engine.

try the screw driver method. Could be a bad starter solinoid. You just stick the screw driver between the two screws. I think master blaster has a spiffy little drawing about that. It could always be that the battery is dead. I would replace all the cables. If the one was bad, They all could be.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Used a test light, have power to solenoid then test the starter side when you turn the key and nothing.  But when I take off the starter wire then do the same thing, the power does go through the solenoid. The battery does have a full charge, I made sure of that.
