Mag Lights

When did Mag Lights turn to . I bought 6 for my guys to put in there tool boxes to use on road calls. They are garbage and not cheap. The regular lights are fine i guess they are older ones made in the US. I am willing to bet the LED ones are made in CHINA and that is why they are now , The batterys do not last long and you have to smack them to light up. Have any of you experienced this with the new LED units. I sent a letter to Mag Light and of course no answer. They went down the tubes real fast. Opinions please. Have a great day guys!!

I have an LED one and it works great.  I'm really happy with it.  In fact I think its better than my older MAG lights...those are the ones I was constantly "smacking" to make light up.

I'd say you're safe with your assumption that the new ones are Chinese made. Even if the aluminum body is US made, I'd bet the guts, including the LED's, are Chinese. This is the price we pay for sending manufacturing jobs overseas...

Yes very disappointed in them. They drain the battery's down like in a couple of hours. I thought they would last twice as long as the conventional ones. Have a great evening guys!!

I only have older Mag lights and they always work flawlessly.  On the other hand, I have several LED flashlights and I have to smack every single one of them to get them to light up, or stay lit.

We had those on all our apparatus when I was a volunteer Medic at our local fire department.  They are pretty awesome, though not cheap.

I've got an older LED 3C MagLite. No problems, besides being woefully underlit compared to modern LEDs. I Google'd a bit - seems Maglite is still all made in the USA.

Did you send them an actual letter, or an email?

I used to swear by maglite. I still do, as a decent flashlight that doubles as a weapon. I carried one while I delivered, and I carry one when I walk my dog at night. However, I prefer the new smaller LED flashlights when I just need a light.

I have bad luck with the batteries in my maglights dying, swelling up and getting stuck in there. They are a pain to clean out when that happens. The batteries will start swelling before the light quits working, so it's hard to know when to replace them. Once they get the least little bit of corrosion in there, then the smack-fest begins.

By far one of the best lights for the money. I used one everyday at work until I moved buildings.

Maglites are for the dark ages.  I have a Nitecore TM-28 flashlite.  You can signal martians with it,

Holy , that thing is $260!!!!!!

I cant justify that on a flashlight.  Maybe $60-80.

edit, based out of China, no thanks.  Looks like it puts out hellacious light.
