Rare Ford radio...

stumbled upon this a while back, it's been re-listed recently. I've yet to see one of these in a 83-86 vehicle http://www.ebay.com/itm/181253992638?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

My owner's manual shows the 85-86 MTR without & with cassette, the 85-86 ETR with cassette, but oddly, shows the 83-84 ETR w/out cassette. A few weeks back I found a radio pamphlet at the PNP in an 86 LTD Crown Vic and it showed the 85-86 ETR with & without Cassette. Must have been another one of those things they were gonna do, but at the last minute, didn't.

It's no wonder they weren't used for long, those ETR's have a terrible control layout, and until I read the manual, didn't think they even had a Tune control since it's not labeled as such.
Current: 1986 Thunderbird, 105k 3.8/C5, 2 tone  Midnight Wine/Medium Taupe, wing windows, wire wheel covers.

Former: 1985 Cougar GS 115k Oxford White/Regatta Blue, 5.0, full console, 14" 8 hole aluminum T-Bird rims, Edelbrock valve covers.

Probably more than a few of those were deleted for credit back in the day, when the cars were new. I have personally not experienced one but knew they existed. Might be worth someone to pick up just for the novelty of it.

Probably came from a Lincoln?? I'd probably take one of those over the MTR w/cassette, since the ETRs had a built-in amp for the rear channels. I believe another one that was a bit on the rare side was the 83 only ETR w/ 8-Track.

I was thinking the same thing. :)

The "VF" in the engineering number is Lincoln and this same radio is pictured in the Lincoln Continental / Mark VII section of the full-line '84 brochure.

If this is the same radio that was offered in the T-Bird and Cougar, it would most likely be for an '84 only model. Not only because of the "E4" designation, but I believe the ETR radios for '83 had a glossy face. And for the '85 model year AFAIK, the only ETR that was offered with a cassette.

Come to think of it, didn' t the '84 T-Bird/Cougar ETR's have a glossy face as well? If so, then this would most likely be a Lincoln only radio.

ahh, I didn't even think about the glossy face, I just knew that 83-84's had "Electronic" in cursive, had white boxes around the buttons, and have sharper-edged buttons as opposed to the rounded edges on the 85-86 ones, Oh, and no AMS.

I have to admit, I do think that one is pretty cool and if I had an '84, I would be looking for one.

Well, actually this doesn't have a glossy face either so maybe this is also a Lincoln radio. Eric has a correct non-ETR 8-track radio in his car, I've personally never seen the ETR 8-track in a T-Bird or Cougar.

LOL I wouldn't exactly call mine "correct" but I do know how to make things appear correct after all these years. ;)

Mine is a 1984 radio with a face from a 1982-83. Believe the face was from a Capri. I have the VF in the p/n. When I was looking for the correct 1983 radio, it was very difficult...missed out on a NOS one for $200, and after that decided to piece one together if need be. I have that same ETR 8-track radio also. Sometimes I am tempted...

Well I guess I should have said "correct appearing" radio. ;)

That may be a picture of your radio Eric, I'm pretty sure I got that pic from you.

Actually, yeah...that is my workbench. Thought that radio looked familiar. LOL
Thing that sucks is, that's for a Premium Sound car. I have 4 speakers...
