Police are about worthless when it comes to personal property damage. I used to live in an old neighborhood that slowly became a terrible ghetto. I had my vehicle windows broken on two occasions, garage windows broken on two occasions, large spraypaint mural done on my garage, all of which no police would even come out. The only time the police came out was when a burglar was seen running through our back yard, and they beat on the door accusing my wife of hiding him inside.

One of the window breaking incidents, my neighbor saw it happen. A group of about 20 thugs (not kids, young adults) with ball bats walked down the street and broke every window on every car facing the street. I would rather be homeless than back in that neighborhood. My sister lived on the next street over, and one of the serial arsonists burned her garage down. A guy got mugged and shot in the balls at the end of my street. The last straw was when a gunfight broke out right in front of my house. I thought, good lord, I could die sitting here just trying to mind my own business. I sold that house before the market collapsed for 50k. The new people didn't stay long and let it go back to the bank. The next time it sold it only brought 8k. My sister's house only brought 6k. These were beautiful 3 bedroom craftsman-style houses with 100-year-old oak woodwork. Neither house needed any work, and that's all they were worth. Now they are both slum rentals.

Try your best to MAKE somebody do something about your property damage. Obviously, my old neighborhood is a worst-case, but that's what happens when nobody cares and nobody is held accountable. People just do whatever they want and nobody stops 'em.

Shot in the balls? jeez, that's just insult to injury. At least he'll never have to worry about knocking anyone up! lol

I wouldn't have even bothered calling the police had i not caught it on tape, Even then it's still a bit of a reach, it's more of a symbolic gester and having documentation. I'm thinking of just going to the school and showing the tape to the prinls (know them all pretty well) and the resource officer, just to see if they might have any idea who it'd be. They are kids, and anyone who's a jerk enough to do this has more than likely been in some kind of trouble before. I think thats all the sheriffs are gonna do anyway.

I'm gonna let the 5-0 do there little motions first, then post the video on my Facebook with a reward for info if they turn up nothing. I think that's fair.

Find some way to teach them a lesson, it doesn't have to be violent, but it needs to be negative and memorable. If mommy and daddy have to pay for this (not likely they will, as they are most likely dead-beats), the end result will be that the kids learn nothing, think that they got away with it, and then will feel fine about going and doing the same or worse again to the next guy. I would take the bill upon myself, just to teach some punk kids a lesson they won't be able to forget. The only way to get through to people like this is to give them a real and harsh consequence for their actions, and a nice traumatic experience along with a huge hospital bill does just that.
