I live in northwest pa hitting a deer is like a right of passage and yes it occurs whenever I hit a bump I don't mean a big bump either it could be a toad in a rainstorm

Do you have a metal bracket to hold up the back of your CD player? Sometimes you have to fabricate one...other times you can reuse the factory bracket with modification. Anyway, I found that to be very helpful in keeping aftermarket CD radios from skipping. Just letting the front brackets or a plastic insert hold up the radio can sometimes be asking for failure later on.

Dang. I just realized how close you live to me LOL.
Where did you hit the deer? Rt. 318? Rt. 18?

Ok, I probably pass your house when going to Hermitage then. I live south of Hubbard. We'll have to meet up whenever this spring arrives.

As for the radio...you got me. Maybe something in the mechanism...

Have a different cd deck you can toss in there and take a cruise to see? Is there a vibration in the car that's enough to cause a skipping disc but not noticeable to you?

I'm kind of wondering if something broke in the dash because I took the old CD player out an bought a new one and same old problem

With a different CD, just about any aftermarket stereo should handle skipping I would think (they look ahead and cache the data). You could try testing out a more expensive car stereo and see if it fixes anything. What brand and models do you have on hand?

I don't see the point of CDs anymore - I don't even have a CD/DVD drive in my PC or laptop. Flash storage space is so cheap now, there's little reason to use CDs (and I try not to use MP3s, so audio quality isn't an excuse for CDs). Perhaps they've all cut corners and many units have CD playback problems now. I wouldn't know as I never use the CD portion. Too bad there aren't more units without a disc drive, but more amplification power instead. They could easily fit (RMS) 50Wx4 + 200Wx1 in the space of a car stereo.

But even in that like I said no problem until I smacked a deer so I'm wondering if I broke something in the dash itself which is causing it to move and that's why it skips whenever I hit the slightest bump sitting still they all play fine and with my phone plugged in everything plays ok so all connections are good
