CD player skips bad March 25, 2013, 02:41:19 PM I've had a CD player in my car for years now didn't have any trouble until I hit a deer I know sounds like why would that effect the CD player so I bought a new one problem persisted yeah I can use my iPod or phone but I was curious has anyone else had similar trouble Quote Selected

CD player skips bad Reply #2 – March 25, 2013, 04:00:40 PM I live in northwest pa hitting a deer is like a right of passage and yes it occurs whenever I hit a bump I don't mean a big bump either it could be a toad in a rainstorm Quote Selected
CD player skips bad Reply #3 – March 25, 2013, 04:49:29 PM Do you have a metal bracket to hold up the back of your CD player? Sometimes you have to fabricate one...other times you can reuse the factory bracket with modification. Anyway, I found that to be very helpful in keeping aftermarket CD radios from skipping. Just letting the front brackets or a plastic insert hold up the radio can sometimes be asking for failure later on.Dang. I just realized how close you live to me LOL.Where did you hit the deer? Rt. 318? Rt. 18? Quote Selected

CD player skips bad Reply #8 – March 25, 2013, 07:33:55 PM Have a different cd deck you can toss in there and take a cruise to see? Is there a vibration in the car that's enough to cause a skipping disc but not noticeable to you? Quote Selected
CD player skips bad Reply #9 – March 25, 2013, 08:12:20 PM I'm kind of wondering if something broke in the dash because I took the old CD player out an bought a new one and same old problem Quote Selected
CD player skips bad Reply #10 – March 26, 2013, 01:11:58 PM With a different CD, just about any aftermarket stereo should handle skipping I would think (they look ahead and cache the data). You could try testing out a more expensive car stereo and see if it fixes anything. What brand and models do you have on hand?I don't see the point of CDs anymore - I don't even have a CD/DVD drive in my PC or laptop. Flash storage space is so cheap now, there's little reason to use CDs (and I try not to use MP3s, so audio quality isn't an excuse for CDs). Perhaps they've all cut corners and many units have CD playback problems now. I wouldn't know as I never use the CD portion. Too bad there aren't more units without a disc drive, but more amplification power instead. They could easily fit (RMS) 50Wx4 + 200Wx1 in the space of a car stereo. Quote Selected

CD player skips bad Reply #12 – March 26, 2013, 01:33:22 PM But even in that like I said no problem until I smacked a deer so I'm wondering if I broke something in the dash itself which is causing it to move and that's why it skips whenever I hit the slightest bump sitting still they all play fine and with my phone plugged in everything plays ok so all connections are good Quote Selected
