Seeing things like this are such a shame.

In my process of looking for quarter panels for the rust issue on my 87 Sport, I found someone parting this car out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988-Ford-Thunderbird-Hood-White-/260738679266?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb53c81e2

While I'm all for parting cars out that have no grace in being reformed, I have a hard time believing this one needed to be where it's at now. Not saying every "decent" looking car is okay, but that car looks exceptional for sitting in a s yard. Someone probably just didn't want to pay to have it fixed I guess and they decided $200 sounded better. Figures. I've seen this before many times, but it just makes me think I guess. That's all.

Why would someone do that? My bird is just like my child i would never let anything bad happen to it, even if i totaled it i would try and rebuild it or transplant everything and keep the body as a keep sake.

In the eyes of the majority, it's just a 23 or 24 year old car....an old car. We are the minority.

I'm a member of the "minority", and I still feel you can't save them all. Last year I had someone crush a complete 88 TC five speed car, complete with an almost mint shift , because they were to lazy to try and get the title back from the sper. I even had cash in my hand and it wasn't enough to motivate them. While I waited, I also told them I'd buy parts off of it if they couldn't get the title back. I REALLY wanted the  shift . Drove by the storage lot one day and it was gone. Called them up and they didn't even bother to say sorry.

There was an 87 Bird in the local jy this past fall. I was the first to pull anything off it, it was actually in the holding area for them to get it ready to put in the yard. But it only had minor body damage, I don't know if the engine was bad or what but it didn't look bad enough to be sped. I bought a few things from it thinking I'd get back to it but when I did it was gone. I asked about it and they told me someone bought the rear from it and they sped the rest. It was a shame, there was alot of good parts left.

Could be a myriad of things wrong with the car that are not apparent from the photo.....Rotted out shock towers/floor, toasted motor....heck, it could even be a flood damage car from somewhere else.

Right, that's what I meant. There's a possibility it was completely done for, but equally as much chance that it was perfectly suitable by all means. We'll never know. Vinnie, we are the minority.. but the minority are the ones to show these same people that will be asking later "how come there aren't more of these on the road?". It's funny because originally I wasn't sure how long I'd keep this car I've got because I told myself "I want another mustang!" and that all changed once I really sat down in the car and messed with a few things. Much nicer than any Fox Mustang I've ever been in or driven. These cars are probably one of the most unappreciated for it's year(s), and the same with the Cougars. I just find it ironic these things are sitting in a syard needing minor work and there's other POS clunkers on the road that should actually be in the yard themselves.

I know exactly what you mean. When I first bought my cougar it was not in very good shape and I got it on the cheap b/c I was in  a hurry for something to drive. I didn't even know what  a cougar was. My plan when I bought that car was to drive it into the ground while building up some money for "something nice". Course it didn't take long before I realized I already had something nice. And that was way before I found this site.
