thinking about a new gear's May 19, 2011, 01:23:14 AM Well i think its time for a new gear for the t/c and my truck.Im shooting for mpg's on this let me know your thoughts. The t/c has 3.73 in it now its a 5 speed and is still a bone stock 2.3 yes i know it gets about 31-32 mpg highway now. im thinking 3.27 or 3.08 just not sure give me your thoughts. Now the truck is a 2000 f150 auto 4x4 5.4 v8 again its got 3.73 this truck no longer pulls anything but my family. i use my dads f 250 to do all my pulling. im thinking 3.55's or 3.27's for both axle's on it. any thoughts will be helpful. thinking about a new gear's Reply #1 – May 19, 2011, 09:00:30 AM On the truck 3.73 to 3.55 wouldnt really be much difference in MPG or RPM.On the TC, I would wonder if that lower gear would cause the engine to lug down and have to boost to even go up very small inclines. Which will add more fuel when boosting, your MPG may go down. Maybe 3.55 on the TC. Quote Selected
thinking about a new gear's Reply #2 – May 19, 2011, 10:18:40 AM Putting a higher gear ratio in the TC would be a mistake. 31 mpg is hard to beat even in a brand new car. Quote Selected

thinking about a new gear's Reply #5 – May 19, 2011, 01:42:54 PM 31 mpg is frkkn amazing. Just like 50brd88 said, some new cars can't even get 31 mpg. Be happy :) Quote Selected
thinking about a new gear's Reply #6 – May 19, 2011, 02:09:30 PM I've got 2.73 rear end and only get about 35 mpg highway. So not really enough difference to be worth it in my opinion. Quote Selected

thinking about a new gear's Reply #8 – May 19, 2011, 04:55:19 PM If you're only getting 25mpg highway then you need to get your foot out of the carb. Hold her steady around 60 mph and you'll get 35mpg like me. Quote Selected
