ABS issues on a Lincoln February 03, 2010, 05:59:47 PM Gentlemen, On my 88 Lincoln Mark VII LSC, I am encountering some issues with my ABS which I have attempted to self-diagnose, but have not yielded any meaningful results. On any given day, while driving under normal conditions, depressing my brake pedal results in both my Anti-Lock brake light and Red Brake light coming on briefly, and then shutting off. The brakes work normally during these conditions, and stop the car fine. However, at random, both the anti-lock and brake light will illuminate and stay lit while driving. It is when this occurs that my brake pedal will become hard (Loss of power brakes), and it is difficult to stop the car. This scenario typically lasts for no more than 2-3 minutes and the lights go off, and the braking returns to normal. When I start the car, before cranking, I will hear the abs pump motor running. A loud, buzzing noise. I will also hear this buzzing while driving. Although it's not constant. What's odd is that I've been sitting in the car, with the engine off, and out of the blue, I will hear the buzzing noise and it will last for up to about a minute and then stop. I unplugged the pump motor relay, and that resulted in a anti-lock and red brake light coming on, and loss of the power brakes. I replaced both relays and the problem still persists. I had a similar situation with my 87 Turbo Coupe, with the brake and anti-lock lights coming on while braking, but never encountered the loss of power braking. I replaced the accumulator on that car, which solved the problem.I'm leaning towards replacing that part at this point, but need a few more opinions before going forward with that purchase. Thank you for your time and efforts. Good night, and may God continue to bless the United Forums of Ford. Quote Selected
ABS issues on a Lincoln Reply #1 – February 03, 2010, 09:42:43 PM I had the exact same thing with my 87 turbo coupe. The brake pedal went hard on me and the car would not stop. Lights were comming on then off. So I pulled the ABS ECU and called it done. Had normal braking after that. No lights came on. Quote Selected
ABS issues on a Lincoln Reply #2 – February 04, 2010, 12:30:21 AM If the motor is running like it's supposed to then it probably is the accumulator. Quote Selected
ABS issues on a Lincoln Reply #3 – February 10, 2010, 07:03:47 PM When you say you pulled the ABS ECU and "Called it done", I'm assuming you replaced it? I just bought a non-refundable $300 accumulator from Ford, so I'm kinda hoping that's the problem. Quote Selected
ABS issues on a Lincoln Reply #4 – February 10, 2010, 10:06:11 PM No. I pulled the ECU for the abs......never replaced anything. Brake worked like conventional brakes then. Quote Selected
ABS issues on a Lincoln Reply #5 – February 11, 2010, 03:05:21 AM Still no pics of the crisped TC?Hopefully the accumulator fixes it...I'd have spent some money on a mechanic before I dropped 3 bills on a part that may or may not solve the issue. Quote Selected
