OK, I know this is an oft-discussed subject, but search only helped me a little, since I'm not going the normal route.

I have a 2.73 gear in my 8.8, and I'm gonna keep it for awhile, at least till spring/summer anyway.

So my question is this...what drive gear do I need in the T5?
17 tooth?

Has a WC T5 from '89 Stang 5.0, 8.8 with 2.73 gear, and 225-60-16 rear tires.

As long as your tire size is as stated(I used the miata tire calculator, works awesome), then it looks like a 17 tooth is what you want. My automatic was a 16 tooth, but that's a different beast altogether(Different drive gear). Besides, unless your dealer is an a$$hole, the gears only cost a dollar or two. I payed  $1.50 for mine a couple weeks ago.

Beau, the speed sensor that I have for you is a 17 tooth. so if thats what you need its here for you.

The driven gears are different between manual and automatic, so make sure you specify.

I thought the only difference betwen the two gears (AOD and 5 speed)was one had a longer "shaft" on the end of it....which I cut off shorter and used anyway.

Yeah, I had to pull the one from an AOD to use...cut the tip off, and stuck it in. Hey, had to have something to keep atf from running out :hick:

Heh, I never said I knew WHAT the difference was, just that they were different :D  Thanks for the heads up.

I didn't know the difference either until I did the 5 sped swap,and needed the shorter shaft to fit the gear into the tranny.I cut it down,and it's been in there ever since......at least until I install the replacement diff. with 3.73's.
