Bearing Press/Install Question October 19, 2009, 03:36:31 AM For starters~I do not have a shop press, Or access to one. After finding out it would cost 27.50 (per bearing) at the local machine shop just to PRESS ON a supplied pinion bearing...I'm trying to find or think of an alternative i might be able to do at home to install this sucker.Any ideas?I'll be installing a brand new bearing so i really don't want to mess it up.I was thinking maybe a reversal of the removal method (With a bearing puller tool) might could work? Bearing Press/Install Question Reply #1 – October 19, 2009, 03:53:16 AM Freeze the shaft, heat the bearing, should almost fall on. Have a piece of pipe that fits the bearing and a hammer to knock it on. Quote Selected
Bearing Press/Install Question Reply #2 – November 03, 2009, 11:54:52 AM I have almost the same procedure as Kitz. Except I cut the old bearing inner race with a hacksaw and then use it to absorb the beating from the pipe while pushing the new one on. Don't forget your pinion shims! Quote Selected
