7.5 or 8.8

i need to know if my axle has a locking rearend. i got the code off the door. and it said on the chart thats its a 3.27 put i dont know if thats the locking rearend or not. can anyone tell me. and its a 7.5 rear axle if that helps any

what else does the tag on the rear say?

Door tag AX code 5= 3.27 standard,  E= 3.27 lock

ok so i know 5=3.27 but if it had the locker it woud be 5e right?

Is the car a 3.8?If so,my money says no Locker rear.

Jack the rear up, both wheels off of the ground, floor, or what-have-you.
Put the trans in neutral, and then spin by hand one of the wheels...if the opposite-side wheel/tire spins the SAME way, you have the trac-lok, if it spins the opposite way, you have an open diff.

Of course, if you do happen to have the locker, and it's worn the hell out, it may spin like an open diff.

BTW, does your car have quad shocks, and/or the rear swaybar?
Usually, the trac-loc cars have those, but not always.

under ax code... E would be 3.27 trak-lok and 5 would be 3.27 open.  ill bet you have an open. 
Vinnie.. i do recall my parts car that i got it was an 88 cougar with 3.8.  with 3.27 trak lok :-D

if its a locker on the axle tag, it will say 3L27

All of the 87 3.8L cars got an open rear 3.27.
It's Gumby's fault.

I thought a locking differential was optional if you had the heavy duty/towing package?
