fuel issues

ok guys. so i have a problem. there are little fuel clips that connect the soft lines running from the fuel pump to the hard line on the body. mine are broken. i cannot find these things anywhere. napa, carquest, ford dealers, nobody has them. this is for a 1988 sport 5.0. i knew a guy getting rid of a cougar so i thought i could steal the clips off that. no, i guess 87's differ from 88 models because they where not the same. i'm running out of ideas. where can i buy them? or even make it work without these clips. i'm open to all ideas.

are you talking about those little plastic clips with the flat end and two little pr0ng things on the other side that are slipped into the fitting on the plastic lines that run under the body? ford used a few different kinds according to what ive seen in those haynes manuals, only kind "ive" seen in person were the ones i speak of so i hope i get what you mean.
i recall seeing those being included with a new fuel pump but i never got them by themself. i dont see why they wouldnt be available seperately since they seem real easy to break.

I bought a motocraft fuel filter and it came with new ones for my 86. The fake duels in the 88's moved the fuel pump outwards to make room for exhaust. It may be 88 v-8 specific.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

no. they're not like fuel filters horseshoe clips. they're a circle the size of the line with two tabs coming off of it going the direction of the line. but they're kinda specific because i searched my work and we had some laying around, but they're not exactly the same. and the old ones are too broken to compare to anything

Advance Auto Parts carries Dorman products too.  Might try there to see if they can order some for ya.  Might want to get a couple extra, and keep 'em away from light exposure to make 'em last and not get brittle.

Plan C, go ask your local Ford Dealership.  They MIGHT get it right.

Dunno but what I'd plan on swapping to a newer fitting somehow.

You can order them from rockauto.com.  Just type the number in the part look up field and add to cart.  If they are for the return line you most likely want 1/4.  I did mine in 2003 and IIRC I used the 1/4.

if you need a temp solution, I'd bet a zip tie or two would get you to the parts store. Wouldn't run it that way any longer then that though.

I wonder if an '88 3.8 would have the same thing?

I really think the clips are the same. i have had the same clips on two 86's and four 87's. I really like to replace the fuel filter in my cars.
