Rear View Mirror tip....

GM has a LOT of cars at the boneyard with rear view mirrors that have a built-in compass.I grabbed a couple and plan to start grabbing all I can.Easy wiring, and looks good.Even has lights built into it.I hope to install mine soon.

Are there any that also auto-dim? Mine is from a 1991 Lincoln Town Car that dims, but no compass :hick:

That's actually what I originally wanted to do before I installed my overhead console. Unfortunately people were asking retarded prices for them on eBay.

If you get one, make sure it's got the built-in directional sensor (some had the sensor separate, in the headliner). Also, if you get one with temp display you'll need the temp sensor, out on the rad support.

The mirrors usually run $5.00 each, but he cuts me a deal.I'm going to start grabbing a bunch of them and lighted mirrors.I believe the mirrors I got have the sensor built in.I really haven't payed much attention since I got them, too busy with other things.

The mirrors were mainly in Pontiacs and Buicks at the boneyard. As for what all GM put them in,probably everything.

Grab some info on 'em (model year and model) and I'll dig up the wiring diagrams, which will not only tell whether it's got a separate sensor, but will also help in installing it :D

I don't mean headlight auto-dim, but auto-dimming mirror.

I have an auto dimming mirror in my 88 Cougar SE, it came out of an older Cougar.  The mirror actually moves instead of dimming.

Vinnie I have a couple of the mirrors you speak of, one is in my 88 XR7
One 88

The lights are a bonus,I've had lighted mirrors in my Birds, but the compass is what I want. Not that I need it (when my wife is with me),but it would be a cool add on to have.
