please do not use the term rat rod. it's like a slap in the face to people who have TRADITIONAL hot rods.

go join up on http://www.jalopyjournal.com, but do not use the term rat rod or you will never get any help.

Rat Rod is a legitimate term for a particular niche in the automotive hobby world.  The only reason it's considered offensive is because the ideology that started the "Rat Rod" method of design was that the car was built to be driven, not driven around in a trailer.

Personally I'm a fan of the Rat Rod concept.  My T-Bird's not hand built, so it doesn't qualify, but it's  close :P

No, actually "rat rods" are more of a "tribute" to "non-conformist" rod building, primarily embracing poorly built and unsafe vehicles. Yes, it can be seen as a backlash against the trailer set, but it is more about ignoring sound engineering principles than anything else.

As for yards with old stuff in them, check out Leon's in Culpepper, VA.

I dont know about that.  I read a few rat rod magazines and the work done seems sound enough.  You could be right, after all, all I know about them is what I've read.

EDIT:  I do know that the rockabilly ladies that attend the events are right up my alley though :D

I have never heard anyone be offended by the term rat rod before. Many older hot rodders at one of my local car shows called there trailer queens rat rods.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
