Summir 1007R AOD Pan Installed impressions / pics

I had a leak from the pan gasket on my AOD, so I decided to go with a new pan while I had things apart.  I picked up the summit 1007R pan.  I liked it because of the fins, and lack of a logo.  The pan is nice, heavy, thick, and fit well.  It came with new fastners, gaskets, and a filter.  Unfortunately the pan gasket that came with it seemed very cheap, and thin.  I decided to spend an extra five bucks and buy a fel-pro gasket, which seemed to be better made, and a wise choice.  The filter, and fasteners were fine.  The pan bolted up with no issues, and fits well, despite being a bit deeper, with it's increased 1 quart capacity.  I did have another issue after everything was together, and I filled up with max-life fluid.  The drain plug had a very minor weep of a leak.  I went to Home Depot, and bought a pipe plug for 35 cents and all is well.  Overall I would buy it again, but definitely would suggest going with an aftermarket pan gasket.  I have attached pics for those interested.

It looks sweet.  I should have got one when I had my motor out.

I like the drain plug but other than that, eh - money better spent on a huge transmission cooler.

So how thick is it, especially at the plug threads?

Thanks for the comments guys.  I actually want to clean things up some when time allows.

50tbrd, you can change the pan anytime.  I did it in the car.  You just have to be prepared to cope with dripping ATF.  If you get everything prepped with the new pan you can change the filter, and install the pan without too much mess.  I had everything I needed within reach before I dropped the pan.

Seek,  I did not measure, but trust me it is real thick, and heavy all around.  I wanted to get rid of my old grungy pan, and yes it was a tad pricey, but I wanted something besides one of those cheesy 35 buck chrome pans.  I was not so much seeking added cooling as I was wanting a new pan since I had to drop it anyway for a gasket change.  Knowing what I know now, and with the goals I had I would spend the money again.  Fluid, filter, gasket and a pan that I like for about 125$ worked for me.

$125 isn't expensive and does make future fluid changes easier but my pans get all sed up whenever they sit around so I would be paranoid of using a better one as the same thing would happen whenever the transmission is pulled. I don't remember the AOD pan though as the 4r70w is quite a bit different and has a lower pickup sump than the the AOD pans allow stock. The sump on mine is basically paintless now due to being the lowest contact point so it gets the most weight when not installed. I should paint that up but my seeming rear main kind of takes care of protecting the undercarriage :p
