7.5" Mark Rear worth it? April 15, 2009, 02:06:55 PM Guy wants to trade me a 7.5" disk from an 85 LSC for the 65 Stang grill I have. Worth it?Here is the question though. I was planning on swapping to 31 spline 3rd member and axles IF I can get them in the right length. Havent read too far into it yet. Could I do the same with the 7.5?I would think I could use the axles from the 8.8", but what about 3rd member, Is there a 7.5" that came with 31? If not then that is out.The 7.5" gets a bad rap most of the time. From what I read if they are built right they can handle some power. But is it worth it? I would literary have no money in the trade so the only money would be in the rebuild. Would it be worth it? I would be going 3.73 with trac loc. Would do a girdle too.I dont see it worth just the brake set up or I would swap it all to an 8.8". But since I would be doing 31s on a 8.8 the the only thing I could use it the brakes. What do you guys think? I already know that most people dont believe in the 7.5", got it. But experience with a build 7.5 would help. I read over most of the sticky which did help, but is it worth the trade? Quote Selected
7.5" Mark Rear worth it? Reply #1 – April 15, 2009, 02:44:37 PM I think in the end you are going to want an 8.8 but really its up to you. I always thought all LSC Mark VII's had 8.8's but I guess not. Hold out for an 8.8. Thats what I think. Quote Selected

7.5" Mark Rear worth it? Reply #6 – April 16, 2009, 11:22:24 PM 84-85 Mark VIIs still had the 7.5 axle. It would probably be ok for now, but if you plan on doing any mods then hold out for a 8.8" Quote Selected
7.5" Mark Rear worth it? Reply #7 – April 17, 2009, 01:39:38 PM I don't think any 7.5 ever had 31 spline axles, be like shooting sparrows with a 30.06...Unless you're going to five lug, the 28 spline axles should be fine... Been running the originals in my TC for almost 10 years with the 5.0, no issue... Quote Selected

Only reason I threw around the idea of 31s is it is possible and cheap with the 8.8 using Explorer stuff. Will I ever need it? Who knows. One of those do it right the first time things since it is one of the things I dont have to rush. Another because I can things too. Usually dont play out that good though on the budgets I set(manual steering) Quote Selected
