It's been a while....

First off, I LOVE my new camera and the most recent lens I just got for it this week.

Some of you know how hard it is to get a decent night shot.....That being said I'll tell you this:  These were taken WITHOUT A TRIPOD!

That's right folks; hand held and no flash ;)

If I had taken the time to set up the tripod I could have stopped the aperture down to gain more depth of field and more uniform light.  That's something for a dry night though.

I can't believe that's with no flash.
When my car is done, I'm going to get a better camera. Then the temptation won't be there to take pics in a dusty shop environment.

I stopped down to f2.5.  The lens is capable of f1.8.  ISO was either 400 or 800....Can't remember, I'll have to look it up.

Those are some great pics. What kind of camera do you have?
I've been looking into getting a Nikon DSLR for some time since the lenses will work from my buttstuffog SLR.

I cant remember which way it goes but I believe it is buttstuffog lens covert up when used on a digital. We got a DSLR last year for newspaper/yearbook and I learned which does what but now I cant remember. If I had the money I would go get my Gramps a DSLR. He would use it like a point and shoot but he takes pictures of some amazing stuff that would really benefit from the clarity of a SLR.

Yes it had just finished raining.

The camera is a Canon Rebel XS.  As far as Nikon is concerned; D90 - hands down.  Great quality at a reasonable price.  Since I'm just getting my feet wet I went a little more entry level.  I'll tell you what though; if I were to do it RIGHT NOW I would do the Canon 50D.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=17499

Here's a price that HAS to be too good to be true on the 50D as well:  $469 for the body..... http://www.ontimedigital.com/products.asp?product_id=10872&from_search=10872&gclid=CL_doJrLhJkCFQEpGgodJzJimg

I'm waiting for a deal on the lens I want.  Similar to the basic kit lens Canon usually throws in, but with image stabilization, an f2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range AND L series glass.  It'll only mount on a small sensor such as my rebel or the 50D so the $5000 camera bodies are out :hick:

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS

Unfortunately, even used lenses command a huge premium, so I'll have to get lucky....
