Keep in mind that the oil from the pump enters the filter through the little holes and exits the filter through the big hole in the middle.

Get rid of that ed Penzoil filter!  LOL

Put a Wix,napa Gold,motorcraft.....something.

I'd really hate to pull the pan on this thing. Looking at it it looks like the motor would have to be raised several inches to get it out. Tough to do on the lift

The more I think about it, I believe the "anti drain back" valve in that filter failed and let the oil drain back through the pump to the pan. Since the filter is mounted horizontal it would be more apt to drain out.
Or it could be the wrong filter for this engine and doesn't have an  anti drain back valve.
