Don't know about the Ford V10, but Viper V10s in a vintage Mopar is a pretty popular, (and I take it relatively easy) swap to do

Power density is low and fuel consuption high on the 2v modulars.  Are there many aftermarket parts for te V10?

I would skip it

Which V10?  Wouldn't 4.10's be redundant?

You'd be a lot better for with a 460 or a 351. Those V10s aren't worth the trouble. They're pretty heavy and sluggish and aftermarket parts are almost zero.

Not that this should deter a true hot rodder, but.... how many performance applications do you see Ford use their V10 in?

My personal opinion:
avoid that V-10 AND the 400...they're low RPM, mega torque producing engines that don't care for being wound up high...you'd probably have the same kinda giddy-up and go that a nice H/C/I 5.0HO would give, and more weight...plus, you gotta factor in the cost of a new transmission (or else bell adaptor plate, IF there even is one...) and new driveshaft, mounts, exhaust etc.

Not to mention...it won't clear your factory k member, OR your hood...
Muscle Moustschlong and Few Fords put either a '10 or a 5.4 in an older Stang Coupe a few years ago...i quit getting the mag before I ever read about it being ran on a dyno etc...and I'm too lazy to search it, bit I do remember they had to hack up the hood and basically the whole front susp. of the car was all custom-made aftermarket stuff...just food for thought though...I'd probably be the first to say "awesome!" if you did it ;)
Of course...if this is something just to be different, by all means, go for it!

i do not thing the lightning got a v10 and i havnt heard of a 6.3 v10... 6.8 v10 yes.  it will fit and clear everything minus hood.  but i do beleive they make a tubular crossmember to mount a 4.6 in a fox with 1.5 inch drop which would solve that issue.  also the pullies, engine mounts, wiring harness, bellhousing all interchange between the 4.6/5.4/6.8  as long as 2v parts go to 2v motor adn 3v to 3v.  but this is all based on the assumption you misprinted the size of that v10 so... if its the 6.8 i can provide more input

i was refering to a car they hacked up. the modular lightnings were 5.4 sohc supercharged. i cant rememebr them doing a V10 conversion although they probably did.

I'd go with a 400 Ford but it will cost $$$ to do it right;)  It's basically a 351 Cleveland with a bigger displacement. Recently there have been build ups using a Ford 400 and 351C parts (heads, intake) and a custom cam that have made lots of power.

I have two trucks at work with a 6.8 v-10. There just about our only good running trucks. They have get up and go till they get to freeway speed. They rev up to 5,000 rpm's stock, but I would go with a stock or 3.27 gear if it were up to me. As fun as 4,000 rpm in over drive is at 75 mph. The trucks are only about as fast as a v-6 cougar, but they do have a 18,000 to 20,000 GVW rating, and a 28? foot telsta on the back.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

ive seen 2 stangs with the v-10 thats what gave me the idea to do it for myself. But with further digging they did hack up both k-members and both never had a hood. And by the looks of it the valve covers rubbed the strut towers. heres a vid of one. and the article beau was refering to.
