Help me, kickdown cable problems

Hi I'm new to these forums.  I've come here because I'm in desperate search to an answer to my problems, I'm a noob to cars pretty much.

I was driving my 91 v6 Mercury Cougar and I realized that the accelerator peddle was sticking down.  I could accelerate but the pedal would not push back, thus I found myself being able to go faster but not slower.  I braked my way to a gas station, parked the engine and shut it off at high rpm.  I noticed a series of 3 rod things on top of my engine, and the bottom one was very loose.  It broke off to the touch, held on by a cable.

Basically, the car shop told me that what needs to be replaced is the transmission kickdown cable and the grommet that goes into the throttle body.  He tells me that ford no longer sells these parts and I can only get them from a junkyard.  So I'm out of luck and a car and I need help please.  I dont know really where one can go to get these parts and I'm not familliar with any junkyard in the dfw area that could help me.  If anyone could provide me links to a place where I can order the parts or just provide me with general advice, it would very much be appreciated.

Jake

The parts that you need are the 1) TV throttle cable and 2) TV Cable Bushing (brass bushing that goes on Throttle body lever). I would call a Ford dealer near you and see if there are any available. I would be surprised if they couldn't locate one somewhere.
If they aren't available from Ford, you may be able to find one on this forum

I found several in my area. There is a thread with the part numbers for both origonal( the ones that go bad...) and the replacements. They list at $4 some odd with a 5 pack, but I had to pay $7 for just one. Put up a wanted section and someone will have one for you.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Get the bronze bushing and pin, I just got mine from ford today.

Part number F3SZ7H303B.  $8.71

As long as the cable itself isnt broken, it should be fine.  Just make sure you set the cable correctly.

This is how I did it today.
