How many wires are in it?  Does it go out to the driver's side inner fender? The 88 EVTM shows a pigtail to test the ws/washer pump in that mess.
 
We're all jumping on this I guess because the finish line is in sight, and it's like we are helping to "get it going" from afar !

3 wire... Is in the same place where all the other connectors plug into the other harnesses.... looks like it goes into the firewall in the big harness under the wiper motor

I don't have that round plug on the Sport. That flat one with two holes is there, though.....doing nothing just like yours.

Maybe it is cornering lamps, in the drawing I posted, is it the connector that has what looks like a cap on it?... Next to connector C317 ?

According to the book, C189 is the cornering lights, which should have BR/W + P/Y. It is gray, 2 pin, flat. Jerry, in your picture I believe it's there at the center-right, hooked up. So I think the round plug you are holding is something else, dam!
