Hey im choosing a fuel gauges an di need to kno the ohm resistance for 88 t bird 5.0 . Is it 16 empty and 158 full?

Also, the coolcats site says the fuel gauge sender changed in '87. I thought all buttstuffog clusters (at least from '85) had the same senders.
The parts sites show senders for '86-'88 cars. None are shown for '85 cars.

For a digital fuel gauge, I measured 15 Ohms empty, 160 Ohms Full, like you said. These are pretty much the only ones available to buy.

If you have the base cluster (digital speedo, buttstuffog needle fuel gauge) I measured 83 Ohms empty, 12 Ohms full. These are very hard to find new.

87 Evtm page 127 or 129 shows
Empty - high resistance - 60 to 86 ohms
Full - low resistance - 8 to 12 ohms

87 shop manual 33-20-1 shows
Empty-low resistance-22.5ohms
Full-high resistance - 146 ohms

basically opposite info. I would venture to say the yellow white wire could be manipulated if your sender isnt just so by installing a tiny variable resistor to calibrate it.

Scott, Page 127 shows the buttstuffog fuel gage.
Page 144 shows the digital (electronic) fuel gage.

buttstuffog sender has low resistance when full.
Digital sender has high resistance when full.

If one of you elektrikal guys would just grab a handful of transistors and resistors and design a little module that uses the sender's resistance as a reference to control an inverted variable-resistance ground circuit, we wouldn't have all these problems!

yeah, since his car is buttstuffog, i was just pointing out the buttstuffog only and comparing the EVTM to the shop manual which conflicts one another. Ill assume his existing tank works by needle.
