Flywheel January 31, 2007, 11:27:21 PM Im parts shopping for a clutch replacement. Im not screwing around with resurfacing the flywheel, Im just going to replace it. The online parts vendors list a 132 and a 135 tooth flywheel for a 86TC, which is it? Quote Selected
Flywheel Reply #1 – February 11, 2007, 05:57:34 PM Check on Your old flywheel!!!, If You want to know how the teeth Your flywheel have, just pull out the starter and the plate at the bottom of the trans, mark with a RED chalk the teeth #1, then start to count, and mark with another color where You are, then turn the engine and continue...Is the best way to count Your flyweel teeth without removing...Regards,Dom. Flywheel Reply #2 – February 11, 2007, 10:00:36 PM why not just take the lower dust cover off. that will save time on pulling the starter. Quote Selected
Flywheel Reply #3 – February 11, 2007, 10:04:41 PM Does this mean that Ford used 2 different flywheels on a 2.3? Quote Selected
Flywheel Reply #4 – February 11, 2007, 11:18:15 PM I've never run into that on an EFI turbo 2.3. They have all been the same. The earlier carbed turbo ones used a different (smaller) clutch and it's possible the flywheel was different as well. Quote Selected

Flywheel Reply #6 – February 12, 2007, 12:38:17 AM Go with the 132-tooth flywheel, save weight....lighter vehicle makes for a faster vehicle. LOL I don't know anything about the 2.3 drivetrain but sounds like you've got some good suggestions already. Quote Selected
Flywheel Reply #7 – February 12, 2007, 03:00:10 AM If You go with a 132 teeth flywheel and the orig flywheel is a 135, it work, but You may have an excessive wear on a flywheel or on a starter gear, not really fast, but...IMHO,Dom. Quote Selected
