1987 t-bird 3.8L CFI, would replacing the fuel injectors with a larger injector improve my performance?  and would I need to do any other modifications?  I believe the stock injectors are 19#?  Also, any experience with Accel 300+ ignition?

Dont waste your time on the CFI system. Youll put a lot of work into it to get very little gain.

The factory injectors are 30#, and they supply more than enough fuel for your 3.8L. The Accel 300+ setup wouldnt give you any gain other than a lighter wallet, the stock ignition system is more than sufficient for your 3.8L.
It's Gumby's fault.

could the same be said if switched to an 88 sefi?

You can make more power with the 88 fuel injected setup, which isnt SEFI, its a batch fire setup. Firing 3 injectors at a time. THe question is...how much more? Youll be lucky to break 200 horsepower since youre very limited to your mods due to it being speed density, and not able to be tuned properly. The only way to make power with a 3.8L is wild porting and a big cam, and you cant do it with that setup.

If youre going to go through the hassle of swapping heads, intakes, wiring harness, throttle/tb cables, computer, and all the other odds and ends...why not swap an entire engine?

The '88s are EFI(In plain terms the EEC only has two injector drivers and fire three inj at a time), those engines do make more torque than CFI units...

BTW... Adding fuel without improving air flow only creates a overly rich condition that cuts power and wastes fuel...

Long story short, My 88 is a  $200 dd, and until I fix it up w/ engine swap, I'm looking to give it a little oomph along the way.  I know the cats are a bit plugged, but finding 98 mustang headers(stock) seems impossible.  So that, an injector swap, and other little tricks, could help me along the way, it'd be great.  The 3.8 has 50,000 on it, the car has 150,000.  I'm an old school carb guy.  EFI is something relatively new to me.

Adding a larger carb also increases air flow, so assuming the engine could actually pull more air(which increases fuel as well), it would give a little more power...

You need to forget about such archaic devices...:grinno:

lol, 88 is the newest vehicle of any kind I own.  Duct tape, bailing wire and hair spray, and I'm good to go.

older than me by one year, but I have a 48 F1, and a 62 Meteor.  Both projects in the works.  Which is why I haven't sank money into the bird, yet.  I like the Torino...I had a 76 pos.
