C5 lock up torque converter Reply #1 – March 16, 2016, 02:05:58 PM Lockup converter is what makes a C5, if it didn't have lockup it'd be a C4, those were discontinued in '82... It should have a extra shift(so to speak), may be rather mild compared to other gears... If lockup is working, RPMs will drop around 200 when it engages... Also in lockup revs will only change as vehicle picks up speed, no "flare" in RPM on light throttle as with a C4...What goes wrong with them? Dunno, never owned one(or a Ford 3.... Quote Selected
