Factory installed luggage rack

Hello all,

I was just wondering how many of you guys have the factory installed luggage rack on the trunk lid? I've never seen another Fox T-Bird/Cougar with one, but I'm pretty sure it was an option (it doesn't look like an aftermarket add-on). Is it fairly rare, or were there thousands made?

It was available as a dealer installed item through the Ford accessory parts catalog in the parts department, but as far as a regular production option, it wasn't offered.

The 20th Anniversary Cougar came with one installed from the factory and some of the special edition cars had them as part of their limited production packages such as the Blue Max Edition Cougars of various years so those would probably be considered a factory installed item.

At the dealership I worked at, it was a pretty popular item to be added to the car and if a customer wanted one, 9 times out of 10 we got them from a mobile installer. They would stop buy the dealership about once week to install them as well as do custom pin striping and tape striping kits on cars. It was the 80's afterall.

You know what? I still see brand new Cadillac XTSs driven by, uh, "senior" citizens with vinyl tops. Looks real classy :toilet:
