another walmart crash Reply #15 – July 18, 2015, 11:33:38 AM I know things differ state to state, but here in Iowa if the repair costs more than the value of the car, and the owner keeps the car (buys it back), it does not get a salvage or totaled title. If the owner chooses to not keep the car and the insurance company takes it, it will have a salvage or totaled title. So if you do have to go the insurance route and they consider the car a total loss, depending on your states laws it may be possible to keep the car and not have a salvage title. Quote Selected
