Vinnie get this!!!!

A m5 came in to the shop with an off idle shutter and very poor response to say the least. A quick scan of the OBD2 system posted MISS fire #8. So i spent a 1/2 hour swapping the coil and plug  with #6. NO DICE #8 was in trouble for sureSo with a quick hookup of my SNAP ON fuel pressure tester io read 60 PSI and when i revved it it dropped to 30 PSI. Now i know by working on the pride of the Germans that this vehicle needs app 75- 80 psi to sooth the appetite of this German machine. So with a little old fashioned hillbilly troubleshooting i revved this German machine very slowly. Bingo it revved to 5K with no hesitation in neutral. So with that i got on the phone with BMW and ordered a fuel filter. 120 bucks my cost. With that JR who is not as savvy with the German machines as i am said!!! Hay the pressure regulator is most likely shot. I answered back no WORRY'S JR the filter has it built in the front of it. With that i changed the filter regulator assembly and drained some fuel in a bucket. BINGO your name was all over the shop. Look at this My Brother. The tank was loaded with . Dropped the tank installed a new one flushed the system and installed new injectors. The pride of the germans would bestow on me honors as the BMW purred down the street with the owners wallet very very LIGHT I MIGHT ADD. Seriously i shouted out your name and the guys wanted to bring me to the funny farm. How crazy was that . The same symptem and the same injector set a code #8 . Who would have thought

Looks like the owner is as shoddy about washing as the brand of gas they buy...or else it's just as dry there as it here. All the vehicles here have dust so thick, it looks almost like a weird smooth coat of mud. Very strange. I've not seen it this dry since the drought we had in the 80's...

Very interesting coincidence...you sure you and Vinnie ain't cousins or some weird cosmic anomaly?  lol

So Tom, got a question, since we're on fuel and injectors 101 today....my 94 Caprice (with the 4.3 liter "baby" LT1) apparently the injectors bleed down fuel after it's been shutdown...the mechanic tells me it's gonna be 800 bucks for him to put new injectors in it...on top of an already 820 dollar bill I've racked up. When it's cold, hasn't been ran in a while, it fires right up, and will run as long as you don't shut it off. After it's been shut off, it won't start for a ed long time. According to him, afterwards, the plugs are gas soaked. I've NEVER heard of such an occurrence, and before it quit on my altogether, it had all kinds of power, and didn't miss a lick when starting. He said the fuel filter was plugged up too, and put a new one on. I'd rather put in good clean used injectors than pay 80 bucks apiece for new ones, plus his labor...(I can install injectors myself, and have before). Thoughts please? :)

Oh Wow !!! That IS a strange coincidence. LOL. I'll take pics Saturday of the damage done to the Sport and the replacement parts and the rest. That is crazy. Hopefully I won't have to buy new injectors. We'll see what happens. Thanks for that story Tom. Nice to know the Sport shares ailments with others. LOL.

Beau, what kind of injectors does your caprice have? The gray and black ones? If so, I MIGHT have a set in the garage.

Thunder i have been thinking about your issue for a while now. I find it hard to believe all the injectors are leaking down. But you can test that with a pressure gauge. Hook it up and see if it holds pressure after shut down. And if the injectors have good retaining clips you can pull them out of the intake and key the ignition or run the pump while watching if they leak down. I have had cars stored for long periods of time with no injector issues. But the mew fuels suck big time. Also after restart does it run rough and spew out black smoke?? That would surely indicate a rich condition. If you need injectors i have used aftermarket ones from JEGS for a reasonable price and they work very good. Good Luck.

Once I pay the mechanic 800 dollars and get it home I'll dig into it, test the injectors somehow, and find out. I've NEVER heard of all 8 injectors going bad suddenly, considering the car ran great up till the time it quit due to the no spark issue. According to what I've read on caprice/impala ss forums, it has exactly the same symptoms as they all describe with a failing/non Delco optispark in it. I've replaced it twice before sending it down to the wrencher, nothing either time. He put new plug wires, and a fuel filter and said it ran after that..

If he's right, and it does need new injectors, I'll be messaging you guys for sure :)
Thanks guys, will post more as I dig into it.
