Will this hurt anything? January 17, 2010, 09:34:11 PM I have a 87 merc cougar 20th anniversary edition... 5.0... This afternoon I drove it up the road and on my way back the oil light came on ... Mine has the dummy light that tells me when it's a quart low... Well, when I went to put a quart of oil in it.... I found condensation in the oil cap.... I seen where the throttle body is leaking coolant...? The question is ? Will it hurt anything if I by pass the throttle body? Quote Selected
Will this hurt anything? Reply #1 – January 17, 2010, 09:49:57 PM It won't hurt anything-a lot of people do this thinking they gain performance by not heating up the incoming air. Thats probably not the reason you have condensation under your oil cap. Maybe someone else will chime in and offer some help. Quote Selected
Will this hurt anything? Reply #2 – January 17, 2010, 09:59:13 PM condensation in the oil cap usually happens when the vehicle is only driven short distances and never really given the chance to warm up properly. how long has it been since the oil has been changed? Quote Selected
Will this hurt anything? Reply #3 – January 17, 2010, 11:57:36 PM It's due for an oil change now.... but,I spent a small fortune on fixing the brakes last month.. It has sat for the last two weeks while I put in the heater core.... I was gonna regasket the throttle body this summer and couldn't get the dern thing off... I have the gasket set... but,I just figured if it was leaking on the outside it must leaking on the inside... and the condensation was backing up through the vent line.. back in to the valve cover.... I just wanted to make sure it wasn't gonna hurt it if I by passed it.. Might even help the funky idle it's had lately... Quote Selected

Will this hurt anything? Reply #6 – January 18, 2010, 05:54:28 PM I removed mine years ago. I had the little nipple on the water pipe welded shut, and capped off the rear hole.No more hoses for the t-body spacer. Quote Selected
Will this hurt anything? Reply #7 – January 18, 2010, 07:41:45 PM I vividly remember looking at the EGR spacer when I first bought my '88 XR7 and wondering what it was. I assumed those hoses were vacuum lines, so while the engine (hot) was running, I yanked one off and was sprayed with hot coolant. Lesson learned. That was fun. Quote Selected
