Eventual resto of a 88 Sport

Greetings to all. First I'd like to thank those responsible for this great site. It's the motivation I needed. I recently inherited my moms 88 Sport. I had decided to sell it as I have way too many cars at the moment but sentiment and this site held me back.  She bought it new and let me pic the options. Of course I picked them all. The car is dogged out at the moment from years of sibling abuse but it will return to it's former glory.

The car has plenty of issues which means I'll be asking plenty of questions. I have to admit I never knew these cars had this kind of following. I've been reading lots of posts and drinking it all in. While I have to make some substantial progress on my 62 convertible before I can start on the 88, sometime next week I'll be cutting the hood and installing my prototype shaker scoop system. Long term plans include a TC header panel & bumper skin, repaint, dash cover, a HO engine, TC snowflake wheels, MAS airflow conversion and possibly a Vortech V3 supercharger.

Thanks in advance to all who contribute their time & knowledge to those of us who need it. I hope one day to have something to contribute myself.

Regards
Leon

Thanks. The wheels are by ARE and just rollers. Don't know the specific model. The factory 14" alloy wheels and tires were shot. These are 16" I got from a coworker who's parting out his 87 TC. When I bring the car home to cut the hood for the shaker I'll clean it out and take some pics. It sure ain't much to look at now :D

Turbo Coupe hood with my custom made scoop block off plates. With the over-all look I was wanting, the shaker just didn't work.I really had to think a log time about the shaker/no shaker way to go.I really wanted my Sport to be unique (although many have used the TC hood).I actually would have kept the flat hood, but it was bent up,and the TC hood was $35.00 at the local boneyard,so,I'm using it.I hated it until I made the blockoff plates.Water and everything else would get all over my engine and mess up the polished parts.I have tow major problems to fix, first, paint and install my new header panel, and second, get the new friggin' tires and wheels ordered Monday morning so I can get the Sport on nice rolling stock. She's mad at me since I sold her Cobra R wheels. If you need any help,I and many others are always around and more than happy to help.

I do reproduction shakers and ram air units as a side biz so it's almost required for me to have one on what is now my newest vintage Ford. It's hard to believe that 21 years have past since this car was new.  I was going to make a shaker for my 02 Excursion but the hood is so massive it swallowed up the scoop. Maybe I'll do a Mach1 style hood bulge for it instead.

I saw a set of 4 lug Cobra R rims at the All Ford Carlisle last weekend. I wanted to buy them but had yet to make a sale and my pockets were kinda shallow. They are $500 with good tires. For me I think the factory TC snowflakes look the best and is what I'll put on the car when I can find a set I can afford. I've come to enjoy the stock look of the car. I love the look of the TC but I'd rather be castrated with a pull tab of a can of"Billy" beer than run a 4 cyl in a full sized car. Here in NYC street racing used to be a big time rep maker. A TC was only good if you stayed out of Brooklyn and away from the Blvd or just getting your butt kicked from light to light.

I got some snowflakes, bought them for my sport. Put them on and didnt like the look so I put 10 holes on it. I'll take $125 tires have about 1/4 of life left though. Might be exspensive for you to ship them though

Any road rash or damage ? T-Bird Caps too? Pics? What's your zip. Could you have the tires dismounted?

No real damage to them. They could stand a good cleaning and polish. I could have the tires taken off, The caps are in a bag out in the garage. I just used the 10 hole caps I had that say "ford". Its possible thats what I have in the bag but I will check in the morning. My zip is 27243

How much are your repro hood scoop assemblies?I might be interested. How did you mount it to the engine?I have drawn up a couple of mounting ideas and the duct work also is a challenge.PM me with the info.

At the moment the scoop kit is so expensive even I can't afford it ;D . It looks like the factory intake hoses will work. I have to find a supplier for the air filter. Once I get it and fit it to the ducting I'll be done. The shaker scoop to air box hose will be a short peice of 3" silicone.

The scoop mounts to a pan which mounts to the engine in the 5.0 badge location on the upper intake.
