Rear Gears

My door tag says 'M' for AX Code. What is it?
I'm thinking its a 2.73
Its an 8.8 case, Wheres a good place to buy some 3.27 or 3.55s on the cheap?

M is indeed 2.73s, thats what I got too :D  :toilet: lol

Plenty of used gears on ebay, but you *do* run the risk of them howling or clunking and/or wearing out and blowing the rear pretty quick if at any point in their lifetime they were set up incorrectly. For what it's worth, someone that is worth their salt and really knows rear ends can look a set over and probably tell you if they'll be okay or not.
1987 20th Anniversary Cougar, 302 "5.0" GT-40 heads (F3ZE '93 Cobra) and TMoss Ported H.O. intake, H.O. camshaft
2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

I've never changed rear gears before, just the entire axle back in my old Cougar, I know its not that hard though. I'm ready to just pay new price if they'll ship tomorrow, I just don't want to spend a lot on gears. I can reuse my traction-lok unit right? I just need the ring and pinion gear? Any suggestions on what to get? or what speedo gear to make up for it? Its an AOD with a B&M Shift kit.

3.73s are in!
Tires will have to upgrade priority to next on the list however, The car won't hook when I really get on it. As well on the other hand, I didn't install them myself, I let my boss's friend do it who lifts up big trucks and does gears on those all the time. His method.... a little stray from what the book says.  I've gotta get the car up and double check for fluid leaks I know that much for sure, Sucks trying to fill it with two flowmaster40s there and I spilled a ton and ruined my new shirt.  But this 'Brian' fellow loved to use a hammer, be it small or a sledge. In just about every place of the installation.  They're quiet, only a slight humming howl type sound with light throttle. Barely noticeble at all. But wow the car really whips now.

It's grey. http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=DFM17271J+01    This is the best you can do. It's for 4.10's but its close for the 3.73s. Speedo might be off like 2 mph but thats it.
