Axle swap

As soon as all the parts are in and I put the SN95 springs on I can  judge how the car sits in the rear.  If its a little low my plan is to run 235/245/255-60-15s on the 10 holes.  Ive got a new set of Kuhmo 225-60-15s on the front, so a taller/wider rear tire will level things out if needed.

If I run the 245 or 255s I want to tuck the tires in a little closer.

On my 86TC can I use Fox Mustang axles and Fox backing plates to tuck the wheels in?

If not, are there any other choices to narrow the rear track without swapping the rear end?  I like my T-lok/3.45s.

Next week is rear suspension, the week after is rear axle maintenence, as long as Im pulling the shafts, I may as well do that little mod at the same time.

No....your '86 has the wider 7.5 housing.  So you're out of luck on "tucking" in with the Mustang axles...they won't fit the housing.

There is PLENTY of room in the rear for 245-255 wide tires.

I know the tires will fit, but I was hoping to tuck them in a little closer anyway.

I like subtle mods, wider tires that dont appear wider, unless you know what your looking at.

I hate mud flaps.

I want to save the paint on the lower quarters.

To be honest, to everyone else but members of this forum...the averge schmo on the street is not going to notice "slightly" wider tires on one of these cars.

Seeing as a 245 tire is maybe 3/4" wider at the tread (depends on the manf)....it won't be noticed.

As it is, the tires sit too far in anyway IMO on the Fox TBird/Cougar, if anything the car needs a wider rear track to look right.
