Need opinions, 89 mustang lx vert....

Yeah so I was talking to a freind of a freind who was selling a mustang. Said that it was wrecked and running alittle bit funny. That didnt bother me. The chick knew absolutel nothing about the car. She sold it to some one, He gave her $200 for the couple of months that he drove it and then wrecked it. The title was still in her name, so she had to get it out of impound. I was supposed to buy the car for $300.

When I got there, I noticed only one exhaust pipe. So I thought, that isnt so bad, at least if it isnt a v-8, I can use the parts in my v-6 car. Pop the hood, and it was a 4 banger. The engine leaks oil like a son of a, and I think that it has a blown head gasket. So I tell her that I dont want the car.

She tries to talk me down to $150. I basically told her that I didnt want the car, and the last thing that I wanted was another cruddy car taking up space. She basically broke down and said that I can have it for free if I just get rid of it for her. So I said that I would give her $100 and then I will junk it and keep the profit.

So I get it almost all the way home, and it runs out of gas. Leaks oil like a civ, and spits out clouds of white smoke. Basically, Should I part out the car,(It is still a convertable mustnag) Or should I drop and engine in it and get a couple thousand out of it with some body work and paint?

I just got an engine puller and stand for about $175 at harbor freight, expecting this mustang to be a 5.0. So now I am stuck with an engine puller, a mustang I cant use, and no 5.0 engine. I am alittle bit ticked at the situation. What would you guys do if you got stuck with a vert 4 banger with a blown engine? The body seems to be good and it is straight.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I know what I'd do - I'd find an 87-88 TC parts car and use the rear, brakes and other goodies in my T-Bird, and thr engine/tranny into the Mustang. Then I'd keep it :D

but then i would have to turn into a dick , and I already have one project car. What I am thinking right now, is I should drop in another n/a inline 4, and then sell it for $1000. Then I will either buy a okay 5.0 HO car or engine with the money I would make out of it.

I dunno guys, I am really on the fence on this one. I havent swapped an engine out before, and a little 4 banger would be good to practice on, But I really dont care to fix it up. I wouldnt have gotten it if she didnt need the money so bad. I dunno still. I dont need any extra money, so there isnt much need to fix it up. And if I fix it up, I will keep it. Another useless car to fill my driveway. Maybe I will post pics for you guys to see when I get home.

yeah I think it threw a rod, So if I fix it I will just get a junk yard engine that is in good shape. I think it would take me less then 4 hours to pull this engine. Maybe more the first time, but yeah. Cant be too hard. Seems like everywhere else everyone wants me to junk it, and here everyone wants me to fix it. We will see. Still havent decided. If I fix it up, it will be to sell it. I have no room for it.

So get this, I get a parking ticket for an abandoned vehicle cause it was in my yard and one of the neighbors complained about it. So I call up the chick to get the title. Her mom has it, So she goes to her mom to get it. Her mom didnt know that she sold it to me and freaked out. I talked to her and agreed that she can have it back for what I payed for it, But I get to keep the rims. She agreed. Well that was yesterday. She put the mustang in the thrifties with my name and address as a "good solid running car" when it has a blown engine and she put in $500 obo. SO now I have had about 15 people come out and want to buy it from me for $500 and they wont go away. When I can home from lunch, there were people looking at the inside of the car and messing with it. I got really pissed off, and I told her that she has to be gone from my possesion with $100 in my hand by the end of the day.
