anyone familiar with bookmooch? i have an idea

why not do a "parts mooch"

book mooch works like this,,,,,,,,,

you post your library of books on line that you are done with and want to get rid of
you see other peoples library
you build up points by shipping out a book via media mail to whoever wants the book.
there is no money exchanged, just shipping costs.
once you ship out a couple or few books you have points to spend.
you shop other peoples library and you pick a book
the owner has to ship it to you at thier cost, you spend a point or two to do this.
it goes back and forth like this.
you get points based on a few factors , sometimes a book might be 1 point
sometimes a book could be 2 or three points, just depends on a few qualifiers.
you end up with a library full of books you want instead of having all these books that you have to eventually take into the book store to trade

so basically you build up points and shop using  your points.

the same could be done for car parts
the more sought after the part, the more its point worthy
perhaps the heavier the part the more points its worth.

example,
for weight, 1 point could equate to increments of 10$ in shipping.
you ship 4 wheels which could cost you 50$ total in shipping via snail mail (just guessing)

now you have 5 points

you shop other peoples parts and decide you want an interior speaker cover x 2
the owner of these parts have to ship the item to you for free and the owner covers shipping
it will cost you approx 1/2 point.

see, you build up your points by paying your dues
i guess its sorta like a prepaid credit card wtihout all the hassel.

NATO had a similar pay it forward type deal going on for a while where the people posted extra parts they had and other people could claim them but in return they had to post parts also.  I don't recall the specifics on shipping but the thread seemed to go on for a while.
