Transmission swap wiring questions (C3 to T5) February 24, 2011, 05:12:39 PM I am going to be doing a 5 speed swap to the Cougar on Saturday and trying to get some of the smaller things squared away first. I got the pedals in last night but had a couple of questions. The Cougar is an 86 with a full wiring harness from an 86 XR7 and the donor tranny and parts are from an 87 TC. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.First, what are the plugs for on the pedals. They both appear to connect to the clutch pedal. I would guess one of them is a neutral safety switch to prevent the car from starting without the clutch depressed. Is the other for cruise control? Will my harness (from an auto car) have connectors for these? Here are the plugs I am talking about. Also, the harness that comes from the transmission has a different shaped connector. The 86 plug is a 6 wire and the 87 plug is a 12 wire (only 6 wires are present though.) Do I need to find a harness from an 86 car or can I splice them together to make them work. Both use the same female pins in the connector so I could probably put the 86 connector on the 87 harness if I knew what wires go where. Here they are. Quote Selected
Transmission swap wiring questions (C3 to T5) Reply #1 – February 25, 2011, 04:30:51 AM You worry too much about things like "Neutral safety switches" Just pull the controller off your automatic(After ensuring that it is in park or...I just remembered you have fuel injection...BUMMER DUDE!I guess you won't be pulling the controller off and setting it in park so you can start the car whenever, since you probably have rev limiters and such.
