disassembling electrical plugs

What's the trick to removing the metal socket from the plastic socket of an electrical connection.  I'm specifically trying to remove the wires from the speaker plugs (no luck finding adapters).  The goal is to remove the wires from the plastic in such a way that they can be returned to stock if necessary.

Thanks

the plugie inie side (the end) usually has a retainer. you can usually just pluck it out with some needle nose pliers. usually the other side of the plug has a rubber seal, you can pry that out then the wires kind of giggle in the connector. some from the front, and some from the back, if you look in have a retainer clip. one of those tiny jewelers flat head screw drivers fit in there nicely. all you gotta do id push the wires towards the front of te connector, push the retainer "in" so it clears the notch holding it and then pull on the wire. it should come right out.

eh, hope that makes some sense.

Ive been doing some re-pining myself lately.

you just have to eyeball the connector.  usually a very tiny jewlers screwdriver or sometimes a paper clip end can be inserted inside the connector to release the keeper.

The problem is figuring out if you come in from the front or the rear of the connector to put presure on the keeper so you can pull the wire out.  if there is no obvious opening on the receptical side of the connector, then its likely you simply go in from the back and pry the keeper and pull the wire.

Once you get one figured out, the rest are obvious.

some connectors have a plastic divider on the receptical side that you pry out which then allows the whole shooting match of wires to be extracted.

You're talking about the multi pin connectors used for the engine, fuel pump harnesses, etc... A speaker plug is totally different, I believe the female connector will release(see Scott's post above) on the "connection" side and pull out the back(wire) side...
