you got the bug to!!  I wish like hell for a forum around people who have an idea of who i am to talk stuff through.  I have friends, family ect, but its not the same.  SO,,,, tis be a car site, not a care site.  if you didnt have the bug, you wouldnt have posted.

A long while back i started a thread called "in the news" in an attempt to capture just the facts of the days events in a few short sentences remaining neutral (yes its possible).  It got carried away which i hate.

I have not even checked out the link,, cause i am currently listening to http://www.radiotime.com (savage nation).

i dont think it would hurt to have a section specifically for that. maybe a sub section of the lounge or what have you. current events are current events. there's quite a few of good people on this forum and that's why i like to come here.

seriously, a few years ago i had my head in the clouds like many, many people do. once i started paying attention, politics, current events and what not i find myself getting both excited and horrified at just what really goes on "out there". this particular story threw up a huge red flag for me reguarding the gun ban thread not too long ago. i figured some people might find it interesting.

The reason we don't have, and will never have, a section to discuss politics is that political discussions always, without exception, turn ugly. There are two subjects that simply cannot be discussed online in a civil manner: Religion and politics. Theleft believe the right are nuts, the right believe the left are loonie, and no discussion will ever change this, in fact online discussion only serves to drive the two sides further apart. People say things online they would not say in person. The anonymity of the internet causes people to drop any inhibition (and usually any thought, too) before posting. This is not unique to this forum. Every political/religious thread on every forum I visit gets really ugly. Feelings are hurt. Grudges are kept. Lines are drawn. Then the political threads start spilling over into other threads. A newb asks "How do I replace the reverse rotation monkey fondling reciprocating lubricating valve?". Person "A" answers, person "B" says don't listen to person "A" because he's a loon, and the thread goes to hell in a handbasket.

Frankly, Eric, Baxo and myself would rather not deal with the drama, and I think the majority of the members would agree. This forum exists to bring a bunch of nuts that are into obscure 80's Fords together, not to drive them apart.

well, as a visitor to the site i can respect that but i feel current events could still be open to discussion. any thread where people express their opinions can get ugly and that's not a reason to ignore whats really going on out there.

edit, and on a personal note, not that i think you are attacking me or anything, i certainly do not take it that way, i would never say anything here to anyone that i wouldn't say outright to them directly in person. i try to be as respectful as i can as well as restrain when i have something to say that could cross the line, so to speak. some people do merit more respect and tact than others though and that's life.

I'm with Carmen on this. As much as I like talking about politics and current events, the FTBCF doesn't need to be corrupted by it. There are enough places to go online to bitch and moan and argue about this stuff. If you want you could try the politics forum on Celticradio.net . Great discussion from both sides of the coin, and opinions from all over the world, not just the US and Canada. It was great hearing a man from East Germany comment on all of the Obama=Socialism/Communism talk. In his broken English, you could hear the chuckles.

But none of that has anything to do with Fox cars or auto news, so let them keep it there. We don't need reasons to dislike one another here.
