trans swap questions. (c4)

ok i remeber hearing somewhere that the aod and the C4 are the same length. so is that not the case.  if thats not true . then i have to shorten the drive shaft. and to make this swap work i need the flywheel and converter form a c4 car.  and the cross member.
didnt some early cougars come with c3's- c4's -c5's so wouldn't i just need to grab one of them and put it in the car to have it work

Bc. isnt a c4 an updated c3 and a c5 an updated c4.  or am i just all wrong on this.

Btw. this is going in my mustang. no more games. 3 gears is all i need. 2.73 rear

trick flow street heat intake , 24lbs injetors, ported GT-40's (Chip) long tube headers. and a Performance Automatic C4, with a hurst shifter!

you can keep your flywheel if you get a C4 with a 164 Bellhousing. you can modify your crossmember to work.

They used the C3 on the '84-'85 2.3T  cars for one, I know.  And I believe the 3-speed auto on earlier 3.8's was the C5.

is that the ones found in cars.  bc thats the one i need rite i rember reading 2 types of c4 one with the dipstick in the pan and the other in the top of the trans.

and by modify do you mean like some crazy fabrication or just elongate some holes

modifying the trans member i mean grinding off the spot welds so it can slide freely on the little tubes. and the pan fill C4 comes in 164 only. those came in trucks mostly... the case fill C4 comes in 164 and 157, depending on the bellhousing. i have a 164 C4 that i have just thought about selling. let me know. hope that helps. laters.

You're partally right. C5 is a updated C4, but the C3 is a light duty POS used on 4 cyls & small V6s. C3s were never installed behind a V8 or even a 3.8 V6..

well i guess my brother missed that when he put his c3 behind his 302 maverick. holds up pretty good. mostly  stock 69 motor in a 71 . so he isnt a hp beast. and it is a light car so he may just have been lucky

well he is sure it is. i never took the time to crawl under his car and look for things to make sure it's a c3. all i know of where it came from was out of a car in the junk yard. he put it in never changed the filter or fluid and it still works lol.  i'll ask him he he remebers what car its out of.
