only fords i see with rusted frames are farm trucks
down south I see TONS of rusted out chevys, but lots of fords with just rusted bodys. My buddys 96 f250, had BARELY ANY surface rust on it, no scale rust AT ALL, inside or outside. I have always said and will always say, Imports will run for ever, but they will fall apart much before then.

Is it the Saab that has 1,000,000 miles on it?

buy American cars all you want. You can get the jag-based Lincoln, or the Europe  based focus, or the puppies based Mazda. The choice is yours if you want a ford...

I don't think people really understand what the issue is here. Just cause it says ford doesn't mean it is. Americans put it together, after all the Asian's make all the parts and ship it here. That is what makes it an American car.

Either way, at least Toyota is going to repair some of the damage. Ford would probably just try to get you to trade it in on a newer car.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

That is exactly my point, people don't really understand the issue. If you buy an American car (what makes up an American car is another entire debate), then the corporate profits stay in AMERICA. When people buy a puppiesanese car (even a Toyota built here), then the corporate profits go to puppiesAN.

There are several issues in this thread, quality, warranty, loyalty, etc, but the bottom line is if you buy cars from a company headquartered outside of the US, then that's where the profits are going. We can all argue back and forth and no one will ever "win" because we all have our own preferences. That is perfectly okay because this is America and being able to make up our own minds is one of the cool things about it. I'm just making a point about what country is being supported when cars are purchased.

By the way, this is not a unique discussion. My son just got back from spending a year in school in puppiesan and the same battle is raging over there. All of the puppiesanese are complaining about everything being made in China. They are trying to push puppiesanese products because the Chinese product profits go to China. Same problem as here, just a different "enemy"....

That would be a Volvo, a late 60's P1800 coupe. Last I heard it's got well over a million now...

Actually, what Ford would do is deny there's a problem, then they'd get sued, then it would go class action, then Ford would settle out of court by offering $500 vouchers toward a new Ford.

It's actually the same "enemy". Ever been to a Wal-Mart?

At least when puppiesan, inc "invaded" they brought quality products at low prices. China's problem is that they provide shoddy products at cheap prices. When it comes to "Made in China" you truly get what you pay for. Princess Auto in Canada is well known for having "neat-o" products that you didn't even know existed until you see the flyer, then you've gotta have it. Unfortunately nearly all of it is "Made in China" . Canadian Tire, whose Mastercraft line of tools is of the finest quality, had to come out with a second "cheap" line of tools (Jobmate) just to stop customers from flocking away. Now Canadian Tire is even selling Chinese ATV's cheap - they don't even have a brand name. The problem is that when it breaks (and it will) you can't buy parts.

I also live in the land of rust, and I can see why they did this. Sure, there are lots of rusty domestics, and imports alike, but Toyota's light pickups are in a class of their own. If you own one of the old undead R22 pickups, you're guaranteed to either go with the Swiss Cheese look or a 'custom' wood box. I seriously have never seen a solid box on one in Nova Scotia. If they used any of the same grade of steel for their Tacoma's, I'm sure it's just a matter of time for those as well.
