Black Magic Wax : A Review

I've been a fan of Meguiar's auto detailing products for about eight years now, but I'm always looking for something better.
I've found that Meguiar's polishes and waxes work very well, but they never last. I would often see the water stop beading on my '96 just two to three weeks after waxing it, and I do everything right, too.

In an effort to expand my horizons, I decided to try a bottle of the new Black Magic Liquid Wax. This is a polymer, I believe.

The vehicle is a 2000 Ford Exploder XLT with a very rich, deep dark cherry color. The entire vehicle had its fair share of swirl marks, light scratches and oxidation in the clear coat. The paint just didn't show itself as well as it used to.

You guys have to see the effect this stuff had after one application. I didn't even clay bar or polish the surface before applying the wax. It was supposed to be a quickie wax to protect the surface, but it really did a number on the clear coat.
One application gave it the coveted "wet look."
I'll attach a before-and-after shot, as well as some side profile shots.

However, the question on my mind is how long will it last?
If the paint maintains its shine for three months, I will be fully impressed. I'll keep you guys posted on the long-term performance of this product. I feel like I've stumbled onto something better than Meguiar's (or any other off-the-shelf common waxes).

How did you put it on by hand or buffer? I have a 86 cat with midnight wine metalic color, I tried everything on the market and nothing gets this car to shine or can touch the swirlmarks. Not sure if it is the wax's or the fact that the previous owner used new finish car wax several times a year.

Looks nice! If you want 3-6 months (or more) out of a wax, OTS products will not do it. PM me if you want to know about the stuff I use.

That works good for a dark colored car to hide minor paint blemishes(read "ghetto" shine)but it probly wont last one wash cycle if you use a fairly strong soap or local carwash.Ive used it for years for durability you want a good pure carnuba wax.

cougardoc: It was applied by hand.

So, you guys are suggesting that the wax filled in and hid the light scratches and swirl marks, as opposed to gently polishing them out?
Well, that was one of my concerns. If it lasts, I will be impressed (I'm already impressed by what it's done in one application).
If it doesn't last, it will support what I hoped wouldn't happen.

Well, that's what I alluded to in my first post. I've used all different kinds of carnuba waxes and I've never been impressed by the longevity.
Ghetto shine, eh?

Looks good Zach. I have to wonder if you clay bar it first and then use a cleaner wax followed by that Black Magic wax if it would make even more of the swirl marks invisible.

I have actually found that the car wash I use determines how long the wax lasts. If I use the cheap turtle wax car wash I have, it usually removes the slipperyness of the wax after about 4 washes. The water still beads like crazy though. I recently started using Meguiars car wash and after 5 washes, the paint is still as slick as it was right after the wax. But then again I do usually wax my car at least once a month doing the 3 step system every 3 months and use the clay bar every 6 months.

Let us know how it holds up.

I thinking of useing this then a top coat of a quality polly. wax that should fight the uv's and create a hard coat to keep the Black Magic in the scratches.

Ive tried tons of them also, If i want a quick shine i use the black magic  butI like to use the The Wax Shop Super Glaze last fairly decent on my car and gives the same shine as the black magic but wipes off so so easy.

I would go over it with a buffer.  I did my white Mountaineer with the Car Brite products we have at work with a non orbital buffer.  You have to be careful with a non orbital buffer but all of those swirls in the second picture will be gone.

I didn't think I could see any real scratches in my white paint but after buffing it looked new.

I've always found that it depends on the color. Some waxes work better with certain colors than others. It is just a trial and error until you find the one that works best for the color that you are working on.
