Title: tranny slow to shift

getting on a highway going about 40 it takes a full petal to downshift. shouldn't I have more power in a 5.0 or is the tranny going.

Kickdown cable ajustment or vacum related.....

Check the cable like Sly said The little plastic grommet goes that holds it onto the throttle.  When this happens it will cause the symptom you describe.  Quick and inexpensive fix is a couple of zip ties.
