Title: TV Cable 'retainer'?...
Post by: Masejoer on June 30, 2006, 10:23:05 PM
The car began shifting weird (earlier and a lot slower than it should) so I took a look at the cable. For whatever reason, the thing that holds the tv cable on the throttle body bracket is missing (bottom half is still there - broken) and I don't know where to get a replacement. Its sorta just dangling there. I'm sure the parts store will have something, but they're useless to ask about finding things like this...what should I be asking or looking for?

edit:
called and none seem to have it or be able to get it. Ford dealership?

Getting late so either way, I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow when the dealer opens. No transmission shops are open past 6 (called every one).

Are there any more nice things like this on these cars that I should know about? Didn't realize it was that fragile, and this could have caused me an entire transmission. Thought I already knew all the faults of these things but guess I was wrong.

So, instead of seeing this:

You see this?

Then you need one of these:

Go ask Mr. Ford for part # EOAZ-7F330-A

Exactly.

and is there actually an official name for that thing? I'm getting 'grommet', 'bushing', and 'retainer' on ebay, none more than the other.

edit:
Got it in and it seems to shift normally again. Its great what a quarter of an inch can do

The dealership calls it a grommet.

I should be good for another 10 years or so when it'll probably no longer have an aod - haven't decided. Gotta swap the engine first due to failing rings.

Get the brass bushing one. That is the life of the AOD if the cable become diconnected it can burn up the trans quickly.

The dealership calls it a grommet.
The plastic bag calls it an "insulator".

Very true... But with the Trans Go kit installed the shifts are still fairly firm even with the cable disconnected, it just shifts too quickly...

But pedal feel is mushy.  Had it pop on me once.  The pedal felt totally different, absolutely no resistance when it is normally a little stiff.
