Title: A few differential questions
Post by: 88sportcoupe on June 30, 2006, 09:06:16 PM
I have an 88 sport coupe with the trac loc and i am pretty sure the trac loc is pretty much screwed. :flame: So i was looking at diffs and they all said the 7.5 diffs were for open diff cases. Is there a difference in the open diff cases and the trac loc cases?
Should i rebuild the trac loc or put in an aftermarket diff? I am probably going to be swapping gears while i am in there probably 3.73s or 4.10s I hate this AOD

Thanks

No difference in the axle housing,, but the carrier is different.. then again there are multipile carrier designs for either t-loc or open.

So does that mean i could put in a locker that it says is for an open carrier?

OR

Should i just rebuild the t-loc?

Just get a clutch pack kit from Ford and rebuild what you have... I don't think the 8.8 T-Lock unit is much different than the 7.5 strength wise.

Or swap it all for a T-Lock a 8.8... I'm using the Stock(fresh clutches in '01) TC 8.8, holding up fine for me...

Anyone know where to get the t-loc rebuild kit for the 7.5? On the FRPP website all they have is the 8.8 and 9".

I just ordered the parts needed (clutch pack and master rebuild kit)for the rebuild from JTs axles 866-349-6801. Good prices and knowledgeable.

I used Randy's Ring and Pinion when I lived up in WA. They had decent prices and good knowlegable techs. They do have 7.5 rebuild kits.
