You've never heard of JBL?  Yes, they're pretty good.  Sometimes overpriced, but very good quality.

Yes. JBL and JL Audio are two different Companies. Never heard a JBL. JL Audio are nice. I prefer Rockford Fosgate. Should be decent if anything.

I wouldn't even mess with the doors as I dont really think they add that much if you've got decent bass.  In that case, it's really just another amp you have to power.  I would look at some of the better quality but less well known brands.  They don't mass market, but they are higher quality and 9/10 times cheaper.  Try taking a look at Adire Audio, Ascendant Audio, Sound Splinter, or Resonant Engineering.  All of them are pretty decent price wise but the ascendants I had in my car would outpound a JLW7 13 in the JL designed box according to the meter at a competition at our track.  That's using the same JL 2000/1 amp in the same Grand Prix.

i totally agree....a friend of mine is obsessed with using no name brand stuff and doing some impressive stuff. hes built some pretty amazing sounding systems out of that kind of stuff. dont ask me though, ive got no clue ;)

maybe in the cougars/ birds you dont get mush sound. but im my mustang they make a world of differnce. probably bc of the hatch.  well like allways i have to put this on hold due to the fact that i have to put money else where rite now. oh well good things come to people who wait. or so they say

I second the Resonant Engineering suggestion.  When I first got into car audioI was all about RF and Infinity and the likes.  Don't get me wrong they are good brands, but you pay out the ass for them, when there is better stuff out there.  After I drop a new motor in my car and repaint it, I'm going to do an all new system using RE audio.

Hell, RE is one of the more expensive brands, but for a loud sub thats accurate as hell, its one of the best.  I think for loudness, I'd go ascendant or adire.  But for accuracy, it has to be Sound Splinter.  But for both I'd go RE.  It's just that RE is so high quality, higher price goes with it.

I just got a Sound Splinter rl-p a month or so ago and love it.  I have it running off of a JL 500/1 amp.  I was originally planning on buying a RE XXX but due to delay and the price, I was sent looking elsewhere.  That's when I finally was deciding between a Type-R, RL-P, or a 12w6, to run off of the JL amp.  I finally chose the RL-P since it wasn't too expensive yet could easily be pushed to further limits if I ever decide to upgrade my amp.

JBL is pretty good. My bro says Diamond Audio is about the best out there but they are expensive. I have a y little Jensen XS Bass I have no clue how many watts it is but it's loud enough for me. I might get something better when I get a job though. My bro just gave me this one for free because he got it for free but he doesn't have any room for it in his LeBaron. He has one of the the best sound systems I have heard though.

im gonna be putting 2 12 inch rockfords in my bros 95 escort, and i want to put a 1 14 inch in the well of the trunk, and 2 12s in my thunderbird. it originally had a custom box built for the sub and a sub in the car, down in the well , and i had it at my house, but my dumbass mom threw the ****ing thing out. but at least all the wireing is still in the car, so i just need the subs, custom boxes, and amps, plus i need the clarion deck fixed, the thin wire connector from the faceplate mount cracked in half.  good deck so im just fixing it.

Who makes a 14?  I know of 15's and one 13.5 but no 14's.

IMO, the best deal on 12" subs are the Alpine Type R's.  They're going for around $150ea. right now and sound great.  Check them out, you won't be disapointed!

Some of the offbrand stuff is pretty good. At the moment in my cavi i have a 10" Xcite powered by a 350 Watt Kenwood amp in a ported box. But soon im going to be going with a 12" Kenwood dB+ in a bandpass most likely for the first while using the same amp. The Xcite and ported box will most likely find a new home in the trunk of the cougar.

Picked up a JL 8" (8W0 I believe) in a sealed box from a buddy at an electronics store, was a trade in but very clean and I got it dirt cheap. Awesome sound IMO especially from a lil 8" and my $35 floor model jensen amp. A friend had two Type-R's in his truck and those things would breathe for you but eventually blew, still waiting for the replacements, gonna try them in a sprint and see what we can break

If your gonna go to a comp, make sure you build a box the correct way.  Check out winisd for a decent tool.  Ive been to many comps and what it comes down to, is the guy who did it right with the stuff hes got.  My favorite was a guy who bought two 13w7's and fiberglass them into his fast and furious clone eclipse.  We get going and he almost shiznits himself when he realizes that a guy with half the amount in his entire system as he invested in his sub, end up owning him badly.  I guess to be rice and conform with the cool kids just makes you look silly in the end.
