Title: 20Th anny seat fabric close match
Post by: jcassity on October 30, 2017, 12:58:45 PM
SMS sent me a couple samples.

the one on the left is very close although the picture makes it appear not as close as it does in real life.

They still dont understand that the 20th fabric was like a "screen" and that there is a solid teal color in behind it.

what do you all think?

It's pretty close - try it out on your seats ;) . My bigger issue is the leather on the side is dried up and cracking.

we all know that nailing down a leather "like" solution is much easier.

I have a spare 20th interior front seat fabric that was original but replaced with what i have today.

the condition i have now is ok,,, no tears but i want to get the other set redone with faux fabric and put this original setup away

Scott,

What they sent you is the same "waffle-weave" material that was used on the Articulated Sport Seat equipped cars with the cloth interior. I'm afraid that finding the original material that is bespoke to the 20th Anniversary car will be very difficult.

Ultrasuede is the original material name. There is an official website with some information here:
http://www.ultrasuede.us/products/index.html

Also samples here (GP and HP are automotive grade):
http://swatches.ultrasuede.us/swatches/index.php

They don't have any perforated patterns listed, and there's a good bet they don't have any of the original 20th material left. Might be worth an inquiry to them, though.

You may have better luck with Alcantara, which is an evolution of sorts from Ultrasuede and is what a lot of manufacturers use today:

Here is a PDF chart with the correct patterns and probably a color that can be matched closely:

The name of the material and especially the logo just screams 80's to me. :mullet:

Good stuff, thanks Eric.

I also noticed Ford seemed very pleased with their choice of "Alcantara" for the steering wheel in my GT500.

How does that stuff hold up? I'm having the steering wheel in my Thunderbird re-wrapped over the winter and I've been thing about going with Alcantara vs. just black leather.

SMS sent me a few more samples.
sample "D" is a near perfect match yet not the same material.

the problem is sample "D" is that in person its a 100% ringer of a match so much that you would not second guess it,, BUT<........

when you tilt the sample at an angle, the dang sample changes color on you,, it actually starts appearing purple"ish" burgandy~~!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to chime in that I'm following this thread, as I'm looking to get the driver's seat reupholstered on my 20th. I can't wait to hear how it turns out.

Option D does look good from here, but that's nothing like seeing it in person.
